The Core

It's B-Movie time again, this time with the Earth's core coming to a complete halt. Just like a movie or two from the 50s and early 60s that I seem to recall seeing once (in that one though, a crack was going round the world threatening to split it in two). Now an intrepid team must get down into the Earth's core to restart it before the failing magnetic field causes all manner of appocalyptic destruction.

As far as the science aspects of it all, it's a bit shaky. A thinning magnetic field causes auroras in California accompanied by killer storms, but if that follows then why are there not NOW killer electrical storms around the North Pole where the auroras really are? And would not lightning strike the really tall buiuldings instead of the little strips of asphalt far down between them?

Well, that aside, the entertainment value is pretty average for a sci-fi disaster flick. The plot is predictable, even up front it's easy to guess which are the two people that will live (it's always a man and a woman who have an attraction to one another), the vessel is interesting, and the action is acceptable enough. Being basically a B-movie qualifies it as a cheesey flick, so with that in mind I give it a Cheesey rating of a Cheddar.

Oh Yeah, a typo in the end credits... "Stroryboard Artist"?
