300: Rise Of An Empire

The first sequel to 300- and I say 'first' because it's obvious at the end that there will be a third movie in this series. At any rate, yes this is as good as the first, develops the plot more, instroduces some new characters and backgrounds, and while it is as bloody and gory as you'd expect, it's more stylized in its bloodletting. this time the other half of Xerkxees (however you spell the name of Tall And Gold Guy) forces are busy invading Athens by the sea. Outnumbered aboutm 30 to 1, a city full of thinkers and artisans, not fighters, and yet doing a pretty darn good job of holding their own, because guess what? Thinkers think. Thus our warfare here sees several strategic elements as they ply for time, hoping the Spartans will join in with the rest for a united Greece.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, no bad moments, but will have to admit that I really loved the ending (even though you can see it coming); there's just something pleasing about the Cavalry arriving in time. In this case that being the entire Spartan fleet being led by lone really ticked off Spartan queen leading the charge. Morale of the story: Never mess with a Spartan because even their women will kick your tail all the way back to Persia.
