Deep Blue Sea

Gee, another shark movie, and just when you thought it was safe to go back into tyhe movie theater. A definite candidate for my Cheesey Scale. Well, as long as I'm here might as well review it anyway.

The twist on this one is intelligent sharks; they can reason, they can swim backwards, they even have enough taste to interrupt a long-winded silioquey by one of the characters by taking him down in one bite in mid sentence. It has the usual amount of horror-film antics, though nothing really frightening, and much of the expected set-up, problems,a nd ending (you just knew that that base wasn't about to survive the movie intact).

However, it does have a few differences. Humor is evident in many subtle ways, and the surviving characters at the end are not the ones you'd expect in the old standard Horror films. Even a line by the black cook going something like "Man, the brother always

gets killed in things like this" pokes fun at overly-staid bits in every other film of this genre. Humor in fact, and the realization that they know they're not the first to do this sort of film, is the one saving grace of this flick and what makes it a worth-while fun watch.

As far as my scale, I'd say about a Motzarrella.
