House On Haunted Hill

The second haunted house flick to come out this year, only this one actually pretends to be scary. Not a film for the faint of heart, it digs as much into the frightening imagery derived from the minds of psychotic ghosts as it does from shock scenes of blood and body parts.

The disturbing story of a haunted insane assylum, it goes back to the old fashioned way of telling a ghost story, that it should be scary without need of modern computer-generated special effects, though it does not abandon any modern trick but uses them as frosting on the blood cake.

I will say that this film's R rating is well deserved, and that it will give kids 6 years and under nightmares for a few nights. That said, I recommend this film as a good Halloween movie.

Oh yeah, and stay thorugh the end credits; there's one more scene afterwards.
