Boogeyman

A horror movie by Raimi and Tapert, that same bunch that brought you The Evil Dead series, Hercules, and Spiderman, and now... this. If I sound less that enthused, it's because before I found out in the end credits that they were behind it I'd thought the movie was rather third-rate with a flat ending, and then seeing that they did it I sort of wondered about the off-day they'd had.

Based on the legend of the Boogeyman, it follows a child frightened by the apparition then naturally shifts to him grown up and the beast still after everyone around him. Seems as I'd seen tis exact plot lot in another movie or two over just the past year or two. With an unoriginal premis there's not much room for this thing to go. This first half was supposed to be building tension and fright but instead built up a bit of tedium and boredom. The action at the last third is okay, though of the few fleeting glipmses of the beastie we get are a little disappointing. Then during their final confrontation and it seems they win and I'm waiting for that final twist... nope, he'd won then a quick fade to credits. My reaction: Is that it? What about those loose ends?

Of course if you wait through the end of the final credits you'll see one last seen tagged on at the end that shows mister Boogeyman starting up all over again with a brand new child./P>

Disappointing, rather cheesey, and with a rating of a Feta.
