A Bug's Life

Okay, getting past the fact that between the trailers for the upcoming Inspector Gadget and Star Wars Prequel movies I almost didn't NEED to see the film, it was actually quite entertaining.

It started off with an animated short about an old man playing chess that was in itself a bit different, and then went into the movie. While it's obvious that the animation was computer generated, it IS getting better. Movement and sound were in synch, with lip movement being as vlose to the speach as can be expected from any standard animation.

But getting past the initial Wow-factor, it actually is a pretty good film. I went to see it based on the number of gags they had in the advertisements, and it was indeed amusing. But, aside from that the story itself was also entertaining. A whole small society with bugs in place of people, it had enough humor and story to be worth the matinee price.

Piece of advice: when you see it, stay through the credits. You know how some films will have their outtakes running with the credits? Well, so does this film, except of course it's with the bugs doing the outtakes. Animated sequences of bug actors blowing their lines, ants holding the boom-microphones, the whole bit. I cracked up as much over the credits as I did over the movie itself.

Well, at any rate, I can recomend this film as a good matinee feature.
