Constantine

Aside from being the last real Roman Emperor, Constantine is apparently yet another comic hero (excuse me, "graphic novel") that I've never read (there's a lot of those out there). As a movie in and of itself, though, it's actually pretty good. Constantine is a man born with the gift of seeing the world as it really is; demons, angels, and all.

For the last 20 years, Constantine has been in a war against demons, but more to try and buy his way into Heaven. Expelling demons from people is a part of his job but one particular episode leads him onto a demonic plot that's a bit more then the usual. At risk is an innocent's soul, a woman, the entire Earth, and of course himself. As a plot, it has a certain amount of a detective-style mystery, action, and just a touch of thriller thrown in. Taken together, Constantine's is a dark and menacing world, one which is reflected in the film's atmosphere and moody backdrop.

All in all a pretty good flick, one I would recommend for an afternoon matine' viewing. Oh, and don't forget to stay all the way through the end credits, because there's still one more reasonably significant scene pasted at the very end of all the credits.
