District 9

A mock documentary of an alien what-if that works better than Cloverfield. It has been 20 years since the alien ship came to hover over Johanasberg South Africa when the local government decides to movce the million or so alien "Prawns" over to a new camp farther away from Human habitation. Thus sets the stage for the poor pencil-pusher put in charge of the situation, as we watch him go from an every-man if a bit not-so-smart man, into someone capable of some pretty brave and moral stuff.

The wrap-around is the expected video documentary footage, but also after all is set up, interspersed with general portions of in the field action that doesn't revolve around news footage (something Cloverfield could have used). Throw in there some alien weapons usage and an actual plot that will have you for a while deciding if the aliens are the good or bad guys, and you have a respectable Summer-ending flick.

Of course I've seen films I liked better, but no real complaints for this one. It is what it is.
