Ella Enchanted

At the risk of a small pun, this is an enchanted little delight that takes a left turn at the classic Cinderella story that puts us into a modern land of faeries where a power-hungry ruler has set a land's many races against one another. Based on a book I've never read, this is a fun and funny tale that isn't just for the kids (though I still don't know why it earned the knee-jerk 'PG' rating for anything not a Winnie The Pooh cartoon).

In a land where magic blessings are as common as water, one child is granted one that is somewhat sub-par:she MUST obey everything told her, often with magically comical results. This starts a quest that brings us past elves ("We're not short... it's that stupid Grimm's story"), giants ("we're not all ugly,... it's that stupid Grimm's story"), flash-hungry ogres, and drunken faeries. Plenty of sight-gags, humor, heart, and some action.

Simple enoughplot, delightful enough film, you'll leave this one in a good mood. Almost,... echanting.
