The Exorcist- the re-release

Well, the one they call the scariest movie of all time is back on the big screen, and I got to see it all the way through for the very first time. Up until now, the only part I'd ever seen was the end part with the exorcism stuff, so here's my first impression.

Some people have very low standards for scary movies. Even after accounting for the fact of my not being 12 years old as I was when it first came out, there are still many other scarier movies just from the same time period (ever see The Other?). It didn't start to pick up until nearly the 1 hour mark, with me squirming in my seat out of tedium and ready to bolt (as a 12 year old, I would have). Then came a good bit, followed by 10 more minutes of tedium, then more good stuff. Half an hour could have been lobbed off those first 45 minutes without loosing any of the plot.

Discounting the lack of background music to set a mood or just relieve my boredom, this film looks like it was made on a Blair Witch budget. Oh, the pea soup and head-spinning stuff was good, but getting there was as painful as the actual exorcism must have been for Linda Blair's character.

A classic? Only because there weren't too many real horror movies out during that time period. I suspect this film will not live up to some peopls's childhood memories.
