Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer

A sequel better than the first flick, it still needs improvement but ain't all that bad as is. While with the X-Men you can't do them without the Phoenix Sagsa, with the Fantastic Four you can't go long without Galactus and the Silver Surfer. Silver Surfer is center of the plot with Galactus playing the same role as the amorphous evil that straddled the beginning and end of Fifth Element; he gets about 5 minutes of screen time as the cause of events, seen as just some big evil squid-like space nebula.

Each of the main Four seem better in their respective rolls, looking more like the family they're supposed to be. Surfer is just perfect, and while Dr. Doom finally looks more lilke he's supposed to, he doesn't spend enough time inside his mask to feel entirely the way he should be. More of their familiar ecourterments appear, like the Fantastic Car and general Reed Richards gadgetry. The plot is straight forward enough, a few laughs here and there, and plenty of action. In general, I liked it.

Will this be the big Summer block buster? Not, not with Spidey 3, Pirates 3, Transformers, and Harry Potter all out this very same Summer, but it is a pretty good flick in and of itself.
