Fright Night (2011)

The new remake of the original Fright Night, same basic plot, different setting, and Peter Vincent is a Vegas headliner and not a horror movie host (which neatly avoids a comparison to the legendary Roddy McDowel). Not as good as the original (no remake usually is, since by the very definition of "remake" it avoids being original) but still done well enough to be entertaining. You have Dr. Who's David Tenant as Vincent to top off a very well chosen cast. I will remark that the one playing the girlfriend is one to watch; she will be going places.

My only complaint is that is was not available in normal 2D anywhere; the 3D was not bad but completely unnecessary; a few gotcha's into the camera and that was about it. It added nothing and even got distrracting once or twice. My note to Hollywood is to stop wasting their time and our extra money on 3D unless you can do it without the glasses. Other than that this was not all that bad. My other choises for today were the questionable Conan remake, or Scratch And Sniff The Movie, otherwise known as Spy Kids 4D (and the "D" is for "dumb")... though I would have liked a good Spy Kids movie (notice that qualifier, then consider scratch and sniff pads together with poop gags). Anyway, not a bad Fright Night remake.
