Austin Powers: Goldmember

First let me say that I was desperate, nothing else of any worthy was out at the theater, and so it finally came down to the third Austin Powers flick. With that in mind here goes the review, though too late to save most of you...

T>hings I learnes in this movie. First, Mike Meyers hates the Dutch, second there's about a hundred different names for the penis and Mike Meyers knows every single one of them, third Mike Meyers really hates the Dutch, and lastly he seems to have a fixation on the male reproductive organ. That aside, some of the cmic timing seem geared to the excrutiatingly slow viewer, as one of Meyers' characters will hold onto a gag line and repeat it until you've had enough time to finish off your soda. There are some comic and inventive moments (I dare you to follow the "English" conversation without resorting to subtitles when they slip into Cochney Rhyming Slang mode), though for the record the Three Stooges were the first ones to have on-screen characters read the "invisible" floating subtitles in their Three-Stooges vs the Martians movie.

I've never really been a fan of the Austin Powers movies, and this one seems to be the sub-par one of the series. Take out the bathroom and bad sexual humor and more then half of the gags in this film vanish from sight. A few riffs of some of the Bond films, some funny cameos, and a couple of good dance numbers to go along with the few bits of humor that are actually humorous. All in all though, I still can't see what attraction the Austin Powers series is to some people.
