The Grudge 2

A sequel that expands upon the original, bringing in the sister of the Gellar character, as well as a few others that have all visited the house or are otherwise connected with the curse that lives in there, the unfolding story telling in time how some of them are finally connected. Both curse and creepiness expand, escaping from the confines of the now burnt-out house to follow from one person to another. We get to see several meeting their end or disappearing in the usual creepy ways, screaming naked kid, long-haired ghost-girl, the whole bit.

The formula is basically the same; ghost appears, the victim is too frightened to grab the nearest heavy blunt object to beat her repeatedly over the head with, and victim becomes one with the curse. If you're looking for resolution then go to another film, as this one has the typical ghost story ending, in that the ghost goes on. Not bad though, moody and creepy, though nothing really new just expansion upon the original concept (and between this and The Ring, what's the fascination with ghost girls with long black hair who'd had a seed of evil in them in life then abused in some way by a female parent?).

A flick appropriate for the Halloween season, perhaps a bit scary for some but in general nothing really new revealed save one or two details of the history of the curse. All in all, not bad but not great.
