Holes

Fra while before thisone came out I wasn't really sure what it was about. The first series of advertisements made it look like a horror film, then they said it was a comedy, and finally somethingbased on a book. Well, ignore those first two and think more adventure on the level of Encyclopedia Brown or such, something that the kids can enjoy as well as the adults.

It all starts long ago when a curse is placed on a family for offending one of those old mystic ladies (Ertha Kit) you should never ever offend. Skip forward a few generations andyou have a boy caught up in his family curse, another curse that keeps a lakebed dry, and the crossing of a number of significant desendants. A helpful hunt here; anytime a name is mentioned memorize it, every time there's a little toss-away line in the historic flash-back sequences, remember it. It all ties together eventually. Another thing; when it comes to the end credits stay through to the very end, as there's one last little goody there.

Overall it's a pretty enjoyable movie, a sort of low-key family adventure. Perfect matinee fare.
