Hoodwinked

I've heard of people that hate this film and people that love it; those that hate it are judging it solely on the animation, and those that love it are looking into the plot. Well, here's my take. The animation looks to be a style choise. It's not cartoony, which is good, but it's not Star Wars 3D graphics either. A three-D that looks sort of like the old Bass-Rankin stop-motion puppet stuff but smoother in both motions and appearance. For what this film is supposed to be it works perfectly, so live with it.

Now for the story. It's the old Red Riding Hood story, but at he point at which the woodcutter enters to stop the wolf the story cuts to yellow crime scene tape surrounding the place and the forest police trying to see who there is to arrest. What follows is the telling of the stories of all four characters involved, their view of the preceding events, and the main investigator trying to solve the mystery of the Goodie Bandit. There is humor, jokes, and of course the who-done-it aspect. Can you figure out who did it before they do? (I did it when I first spotted the character, but that's just me, and I still enjoyed watching the pieces fall into place. Can you have a jolly good time en route?

A pretty good film, overall; something in the spirit of the old Fractured Faery Tales. A very good afternoon matinee for family and kids, and even one or two adults.
