I, Robot

Having actually read some of the Robot stories, I went into this expecting to both like and hate it; after 20 years of someone trying to sell the idea of a robot movie, to see it turned into a standard action flick just seemed really wrong. imagine my relief when it was actually better than I thought it would be. Dr. Susan Calvin is still in it, as are the fabled 3 Laws of Robotics, but we also have killer robots in an apparent contradiction of the Asmovian Laws (which is where Issac Asimov would start that turning around in his grave).

The main part of the movie is a follow-the-clues detective bit with some interspersed action bits as hegets closer; all standard fare done numerous times under several other genres but still interesting nonetheless. Several done-before bits and dialogue strewn together;just a standard enough plot put under the setting of robots. Then before the big reveal comes you may (as I) have already guessed what's going on. For those well-read Asimov fans I'll put it this way: they took the Zeroeth Law of robotics and gave it an evil twist, the result of which again looks sort of done-before but at least doesn't stretch the spirit of the robotic laws too much (though Asimov would be still cringing).

By itself, the movie works though nothting spectacular. As a movie-version of Asmov's stories, well there's a reason why they say to not mess with the Masters.
