King Kong (2005)

o/~King Kong, you know the name of, King Kong, you know the name of...o/~

Sorry, wrong Kong (old animated). But since the original Kong there have been an animated series and two remakes; loved the anime as a kid, never gave time of day to the remakes. But this third remake, however, definitely hits the mark. Peter Jackson has once again shown that he's a fan-boy with a true love for his subject material. At three hours, it takes its time telling the tale, building up the characters and motivations, giving us a really good tour of Skull Island, then seeing Kong rampage loose around 1932 New York. But more then that, this Kong is far more realistic in both appearance and movements; Kong moves like an ape, swinging around all over the place. It looks like that motion-capture stuff is really worth the money (think Golem on a Kong-sized scale).

The film is faithful to the original not only in the literal sense but in the spirit of what the original crew would due if they could have in 1933. One example would be the bug trap (you'll see). We see more of how Kong got a crush on the beauty, and we even have a line straight out of the original... "It was beauty that killed the beast".

So do I like it? What do you think. Just go see it and sit back for a nice long swing through the jungle.
