Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps

Eddie Murphy is a real camleon and this movie sshows that off quite well. Adept at acting and looking like half a dozen or so different people, this movie is the perfect venue for him to show off his stuff. Unfortunately someone forgot to remind him to keep it funny.

There are several amusing moments, and the movie does pick up at the end, but it just isn't as funny as the first film. The begining of the movie has some spots I imagine are meant to be funny, but as I have never viewed situations involving gags at the expence of someone's uncomfortable embarrassment as being funny, then those parts just made me squirm (I identify too much with such situations).

Eddie Murphy is a prodigy of characterization and morphing himself into other people that bear no resemblance at all to his own physical appearance, and to that this movie is a tribute. But good acting alone doesn't make a comedy. You need that extra zaniness that Murphy has put in some of his past movies.

And this film just doesn't quite have that same zany flavor.
