Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King

The last installment in one of the most epic and faithfully rendered movie series in film history. Everything is on the line as the fate of Middle Earth ultimately rests in the hands of one little hobbit. i hisitate to call this the bestof the three as everything that happens in this film was built up to in the first two. So, I'll only judge it in terms of the trilogy as a whole and this the last chapter of a book. In that regard, this chapter comes off quite successfully.

Emotionally it's powerful, from the lay it all on the line plans down to the tearful goodbyes and honors given at the end. In terms of conflicts the second film had a great battle, this one has a war, though I still think the one in Two Towers had a bit more impact. As a whole it has a great look, though I think that Elf's ears should be more pointed than a hobbit's and that one should not have a five o'clock shadow (though in the books Elrond IS supposed to be just half elf, as I recall), but that's just nitpicking. This is a movie that doesn'tmind telling a fullstory, as at 3 hours and 22 minutes it's a real bladder-buster so no drinking before going into see it. And if thefirst half seems to be taking it's time it's because most of the entire last half is all combat. then to top it off, about the last 20 minutes is filled with well-earned congratulations and good-byes..

Worth the money? Hey, DVDs or not there are just some films you have to see on a 60 foot screen.
