Now THIS is a Mission Impossible movie- at last! Unlike the first two movies, this one actually feels like you're watching Mission Impossible. The openeing lit fuze, the theme song, the distinctive incidental music playing while they're on the mission, the masks, the tricks during the mission, the clean getaway, it's all there. As well is the action picture aspect and the Abrams touch, clearly recognizable to all Alias fans (that opening sequence in the middle of the mission then cutting to a few days earlier to start off with). Abrams says he's a fan of the original show and it shows.

The first half of the film is pure Mission Impossible, just like a big screen eipisode of the series. The second half is your basic spy action picture with overtones of Alias. The whole is a most satisfying film, just the right amounts of everything required. Perfect matinee' fare.
