Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones

A HIGHLY derivative YA Fantasy flick based on a book that I will now go out of my way to never read. The music was good, the visuals were good, ut the story, while having some good potential took too much from several other movies. It began like Hrry Potter with a girl that didn't know her heratage, went along sorta like Vampire Diaries or Twilight with supernatural teenagers with perfect features, and at the end we had a bit of Empire Strikes back with the line "I am your father"- and yes, I almost expected him to add "Luke"at the end. As well, the whole story seemed very rushed, like they were trying to work in material from 2 or 3 different movies. One plot point was even completely wasted; the wannabe boyfriend is resuced from the vampires, finds he mno longer needs his glasses, rhen the girl sees the bite marks on his neck. Obvious conclusion: he's going to turn and she knows this. But does she do anythign about it? Do we even SEE anything more of this plot line? No, which has one wondering why put it in there at all. Oh, and the City of Bones part? A minor part of the movie that lasts maybe 15 minutes and is not even close to being the main focus of the story.

Is it worth even matinee'? Probably not.
