Mr Deeds

I've never seen an Adam Sandler movie before, mainly because I never found him all that funny on SNL, and from what I've heard of his previous attempts I've notmissed much. So imagine my surprise when I actually enjoyed myself.

Mr. Deeds is a mild comedy, not falling-down funny but pleasant with an occasional tear in the eye and lift of the spirit. No over-played gross-out approach to comedy and only one instance of comedy-by-embarrassment (this latter is just a personal dislike of mine). Just a pleasant comedy about a simple man from a small town that suddenly finds himself quite rich and beset by greedy big-city players. A re-make of the original "Mr. Deeds Goes To Town", itself is a pleasant enough film to warrant a look-see. The usual plot of a "sweet kid" getting something more sophisticated types try to take away from him then winning out in the end through nothing more deadly then his small-town charm (like we didn't see that coming).

Predictable plot yet enjoyable comedy, Mr. Deeds makes a nice stop-over between the big summer movies.
