The Mummy Returns

Well, Bandage Guy is back and this time just in time for an Apocalypse. A mysterious woman, the expected return of Mummy man, and a race to stop the freeing of an old terror called the Scorpion King. It may be nine years later for the happy couple, and they may have a kid in tow this time, but they've lost none of that old flare for danger. Every bit as good as the first film, though a couple aspects of the plot looked derivative of the first. Still though, worth the look.

One minor nitpick here; there is no way that a wooden scafolding falling against a tall heavy stone column is going to make said column fall to one side in a domino effect. We're talking difference of mass here. Also, the computer generated bad thingy at the end could have used a bit more work; it looked like a screen-shot off of Doom. I do like the undead monkeys though (you'll know them when you see them), and the fact that- for a time at least- our favorite mummy gets what he's long sought.

As far as The Rock staring as the Scorpion King goes, it's little more then a cameo appearance; what you see on the television promos amounts to about half of his appearance in the entire film. His character is the focus of the whole film, but don't keep waiting for him to pop out or you'll miss all the good stuff.

All in all, good matinee fare, and a sound track I'll probably get. A good way to start off the season, though I feel there'll still be better yet to come in the next few weeks. And like the first one, this film rates about a Motzarrella.
