Murder By The Numbers

Not exactly a murder mystery, since you know up front which guys did it, and not exactly a thriller since no one's in any immediate danger (a small fight at the end being the exception), so I guess we get to call it a detective flick. Sandra Bullock is the detective who gets to solve a murder while two high school boys (isn't that the blond kid that played Young Hercules?) are the ones trying to commit the perfect murder.

While it's no real secret up front the pair behind it, the details of how are only uncovered as the detective does so. That and Sandra Bullock's character's personal problems keep this movie from being completely mediocre. Not bad, not good, just sort of a holding-pattern of a movie. As far as where the title comes in at, well in the advertisements for it they had one of the murdering kid characters listing the first four or so rules for a perfect murder, but that never appears in the film so your guess is as good as mine.

It was either this or Jason X (and I'm giving that one a Feta at best without even seeing it).
