Nanny McPhee

A slightly wicked version of Mary Poppins, you have your (rather obvious) enchated nanny in old victoria England coming down from the sky to run a household of seven kids with a busy father but recently deceased mother. There are lessons to be learned as the Nanny takes a rather stern eye and stiff magic walking stick to let the kids find out things for themselves.

I won't spoil a few of the details that speparate this nanny from Poppins, but there is enough of a difference to make things a bit interesting. There is also a small plot development regarding a scullery maid that you'll probably see coming a mile away but that is nonetheless a good climax when it resolves. Any faults? Not really, it is very good for what it is, which is a good family film. It's rated PG but is really a good old fashioned G; they probably just objected to a line at the beginning (one which everyone in the world abovce the age of 2 except the ratings board can see coming as a fake setup and not the real shocking thing).

Nanny McPhee is a pleasant little movie that will please the kid at heart and maybe a little bit more.
