National Security

Martin Lawrence is a washed out cop in training turned security guard up against an actual cop with a long run of bad luck whose partner was just killed in this comedy that has then alternately at odds against one another and working together on the trail of a murderer and high-rent thieving gang.

The plot has been done several times in severak different ways, so nothing new or unexpected there. Lawrence's character has theold white man versus black man chip on his shoulder and from that derives some of the comedy but some of it actually eems to be making fun of that attitude. Either way, enough of the comedy works to actually make this a bit more entertaining then I'd thought it might be going in; nothing to inspire belly laughs, mind you, but a few chuckles here and there.

Of the recent rashof fourth-rate comedies now out, tis eems to be the closest thing to a winner. see it matinee' if you've nothing else to do. Not bad, not great.
