Peter Pan

I DO believe in faries, I Do believe infaries, I DO... believe this to be the most faithful rendition of Peter Pan yet. For one thing, the title roll is (for thevery first time ever, I believe) played by someone who's both MALE and a KID, though in another first that goes from cute to disturbing once it hits a quick kissing scene, Tiger Lilly is also played by a young boy, one weariung pig tales and being addressed as "she" (first name of actor in credits is Carson). Of course the tell-tale sign of what it's like is that they retain the scene of all good dreamers clapping to bring Tinkerbell back to life (well, not clapping in this one, but same effect).

Peter is played by someone who's quite good at the old mischievous boy eye-glint and a thoroughly convincing Peter, while Hook is just the right mix of fiend and just a touch of the Disney Hook. The flight sequences were also realistic, looking more like Peter was actually gliding and not like wire-work at all. As for the story, well you've read the book and seen it in your dreams, because this is Neverland made flesh (though I do seem to recall one quick bit in the promos and not in the film about Hook asking Wendy if she can recall her mother's name and her saying no).

A quite enjoyable film that misses "cute" to hit "classic" firmly in the center.
