The Prestige

First off, unlike what the promos suggest, this film has nothing about the supernatural in it, so if that's what you're looking for then think twice. That said, this film is quite good. A rivalry between two once-friends magicians snowballs one revenge seeking after another as one is obsessed with learning the other's secrets to his illusions, one in particular called the Transported Man. The film, like all good magic tricks, is one misdirection after another, daring you to figure out what's really going on.

Evereyone is saying that you'll never guess the ending, but when a quiet character enters in, never says a word, and is sporting some facial hair that just screams chin-wig, then it only takes about a second before you start wanting to get a better look at the guy under the hood, especially since they never give you a good glimpse until the very end. These people have got to stop saying that no one will guess an ending. Anyway, the film has a rare look into a magician's world, not to mention some of their tricks of the trade. The fact that it's a period piece makes the ingenuity of the magic tricks all the more interesting. Not a bad film, and enough mystery to keep you interested, the bit with Tesla (and David Bowie surprisingly underneath that character) is just gravy to push it a little bit beyond the realm of normal drama.
