The Princess And The Frog

Classic 2-D hand-drawn Disney animation of an old tale in a new-world setting, Disney takes the Princess and the Frog and moves it far away from old European kingdoms to the more recent kingdom of New Orleans, circa late 1800s early 1900s (whenever "the bee's knees" was in vogue with the original Jazz era). OUr Prince here is real, but our Princess is a waitress and that would be where the problem comes in when said Prince-turned-Frog tries to get a kiss from her. The rest would be the fairly straight-forward but entertaining story.

The animation is great, style and atmosphere perfect (of course, they chose a city that just drips atmosphere), the story predictable (everyone knows the classic fairy tail), the villain pretty good though I've seen better, the songs really good, and the side characters entertainng without getting too cutesy (they talk, but only to other animals and when the human characters are in frog form). Nothing really wrong with it, pretty good especially considering it's a 'G' rating, and enough for kids and adults alike (though a hard moment in there for the really young ones). Perfect matinee' fare.
