Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse

The walking dead are back in this Night Of The Living Dead clone, the sequel to the first Resident Evil flick. At least this time, though, they left out the stupid-pill-eating military and had some guys in there that are at least competant, not to mention one or two that are down right dangerous. The film picks up right after the end of the first one, with a bit of back story about what was happening while our heroine was unconscious in a lab at the first flick's end. After that it's superwoman versus the massive undead hordes.

Oh yeah, about that. Apparently the military cannon fodder from the first film were so incompetent that they brought out a female cop with more testosterone in her then some guys, as well as souping up our gal from the first one (whose name we now know to be Alice). It's pretty much Ladies' Day Out versus a corporation so big and powerful that's it's made them completely stupid regards such things as pondering money vs the end of the world, never mind such annoying things as questions of morality.

It is entertaining, though, in a killer lady vs dragging zombies sort of way. Is there a set up for a third flick? Well, possibly, though I suspect that depends on how good this one does at the box office; good returns then that ending is a lead-in to the next film, bad returns and it's just one of those endings filled with a bit of last minute doubt. As far as Cheesey goes, this combination sequel and Living Dead ripoff gets a Provalone.
