Shrek

Combine an ogre with a Scottish accent, a princess that could be Xena's long lost sister, and an over-talkative mule, and you got Shrek, a computer-animated video game of a fantasy that aims for kids but is entertaining enough for the kid in adults as well.

A fairy tale that doesn't take itself too seriously yet avoids the Disney-flavored sappy-sweetness that some producers think is the only thing that young kids can handle, Shrek is at times funny, intelligent, and doesn't mind poking a little fun at fairy tale stereotypes- not to mention Disney itself. The end plot wrapup can be seen coming from a long ways away, but then this isn't meant to be anything more then simple-minded good-natured fun. Yes there's a message, one that's been done many times before, but that doesn't detract from the film's enjoyment.

With a name that sounds like a cuss word from Battlestar Galactica, Shrek is one of those family films that the adults will enjoy as well (for once).
