13 Ghosts

Okay, up front you just GOTTA know this one's going to make it to my Cheesey Scale. With ghosts and some haunted machinery, how could it not? Anyway, to begin. Thirdteen Ghosts is another haunted house flick with the twist that the house isn't your normal creeking stone mansion. The engineer guy from Galaxy Quest plays a father of two children who inherits a house from his muncle, a house made nearly all in glass covered with writing and gears and machinery all around. Throw in a few ghosts that have no trouble making their presence felt on the living, and you've got the latest theme movie in timme for Halloween.

A couple minor but nnot entirely unexpected surprises, a nanny who renders part-time comedy relief in the form of a well-placed remark or two, and enough gear-laden gadgetry to look like 007's Q exploded in the place. Lots of interesting things to look at, some scary visuals to frighten the kiddies, though no real addrenaline rush. All in all an acceptable little combination of fright and deduction.

On my Cheesey Scale, I give it a Provalone.
