Thor

The first comic-book movie of the season, Thor is based on the legendary comic which in turn is based on Norse mythology. Let me first say that as both an interpretation of the original and a movie in its own right, this thing is just perfect. Entertaining, exciting, and divine.

First off, the casting is perfect. The guy playing Thor is... well, Thor,, and Loki is Loki, and Odin is so very much Odin that you can't even tell it's Anthony Hopkins beneath all that beard and armor. And then there's Asgard... What a combination of otherworldly, super-science, and classic mythology! There is also humor in this, but not forced; rather, it comes naturally out of the situations. The bad guy is no surprise, not if you know anything abot Norse mythology, but it's still done well. In fact, I can't find anything wrong with this, not so much as a slow moment or anything. So see this, matinee' or not, and stay through the end credits for yet another lead-in scene to Shield and Avengers.
