Tomb Raider

Well, I've never played the game, but I do know not to expect much from movies based on video games. In that vein let me say that it was better than one might have expected. Plot's your basic lost civilization hunt (see any given episode of the syndicated series Relic Hunter), graphics at least better then the stuff at the end of Mummy Returns, and I assume some of the stunts are in there to mimic the game (though not having played it I can't confirm this for myself). The action is basically arcade-like in many parts as well; lots of double-pistol action with endless ammo-clips (it's based on a video game, so what would you expect?).

Basically it's a big-budget B-movie and hence qualifies for my Cheesey Scale (any excuse to use that). With that in mind, I give it a Camembare. No big surprises, just stunts, fight sequences, and a simple enough pre-adolescent plot. One little easter egg though; see if you can spot Rimmer of Red Dwarf fame.

Picture a two-hour episode of Relic Hunter.
