Transformers

The transforming robots are back and this time looking a lot less cartoony. Action, humor, drama, and amazing special effects in the form of the Transformers themselves make this a perfect July Fourth Summer flick.

First off, a remark on the transforming sequence, which are the main draw of this film. The detail in computer graphics that had to go into just this one aspect is amazing and no doubt the bulk of the effects budget, but well worth it. Through in the sound guy, complete with series-original transforming sound, and it's dpone to a turn. The voices are good, including what sounds like the original Optimus Prime, and Megatron is just perfectly vicious.

The kids are good, then the humor inspired by gigantic robots trying to hide from things like the kid's paretns is just hilarious. The plot? well, we finally get a good, and thankfully quick, origin story of how these living robots came to be in the form of an opening narration, then after that a straightformward plot involving something that both sides really want bad. And of course the action... A word of warning though; during the thickest parts of the final battle, some of the camera work is so quick and always shifting that it's some times hard to keep track of which mess of mechanics, is which bot. In other words, don't blink.

In short, go see it.
