Underworld

If you're expecting the standard vampires sucking on the blood of mortals and being repelled by crosses and vampire hunters, then you're at the wrong movie. This one's about the other side of their society, about their war versus the society of lycanthropes. In fact, we see nothing of the more popular vampire myths, that being left to the assumed background. Instead we see that aspect as pertains to their feud against the werewolves, a view that is nearly entirely outside the mortal Human world.

Selene is a Death Dealer, a special breed of vampire that seems to be their version of a warrior in this film so obviously inspired by the White Wolf games. She became a vampire after Lycans killed her family centuries ago and has been returning the favor ever since. but now there seems to be something new going on that could threaten all of vampire society and that is where the story begins. Intrigue, a plot twist or two, lots of bullets, and new ways of vampires and werewolves killing each other help push this movie along. Bullets filled with a liquid that phosphoreses with ultraviolet light enough to damage vampires is answered to by silver-nitrate rounds for hitting the lycans. Add in vampire elders and a blood feud and this thing's not too bad.

For those complaining about how it portrays traditional vampire and werewolf myths, first it doesn't really violate much of that, and second if you can come to me with a vampire and a werewolf to tell me what they got wrong then I'll listen. In the meantime just sit down and enjoy it.
