Apparently based on one of a series of books called Cirque Du Freak, the Vampire's Assistant is an atnospheric little gem about a circus of supernatural freaks and the boy that gets caught up in their strange world. I love the atmosphere and setting (a supernatural freak circus? What's not to love!), and on top of that it even has a plot. I did notice a couple of scenes in the trailers that weren't in the movie, ones that would have filled in a couple small gaps, and could have used a bit more of the circus life and some more of the background characters, but over all I loved the concept, the characters, the conflicts, just wanted more of it. I'm hoping more of the Cirque Du Freak books make it to film because I want to see more of this world.
